Fr. Ray Drop-In Center for Street Kids
Family History and General Information
Tang came from a broken family. He was under the responsibility of his father after his parents were separated. His father remarried with a woman who already has a son and daughter. Tang’s step-brother got involved in a petty theft but he blamed Tang. This made Tang feel unhappy and considered it unfair to him as other people said he was a thief. Our staff from the Drop-In Center found him in Soi Sunee, South Pattaya which is full of bars along both sides of the road. Tang accepted our help and was pleased to be under our care. He is now studying in his Year 5 in the primary level at the Chanthaburi Provincial Welfare School. Before he became our resident, he was at the Government’s Correction and Protection Center in Rayong Province. It is noted that Tang is a very confident young teenager who obediently follows his teachers at the Drop-In Center. He has many friends, due no doubt to his reputation as he is really friendly and helpful to others. (WS) February, 2009 Tang continues his academic study at the Chanthaburi Provincial Welfare School. He will be transferred to the school in Pattaya when the new school year begins in May in order that our staff at the Center can help him with his academic side. Tang wants to take a vocational training course in the future. He is now interested in the Electricity Course. He dreams he will get a good job, return to his hometown, and look after his father. Personally, Tang is quiet, shy, and sensitive. He appears to be a real fighter who does not like to be annoyed. A stressed young teenager, Tang stays alone when he faces problems. He needs a lot of love and attention. It seems at he has low confidence or low self esteem. This may make him feel it is impossible to be the person he can be and his happiness appears to be limited. His people are pushing him to build self-esteem, which is the first step towards happiness and a better life. At the Center, he is assigned to do household chores such as cooking. This increases his confidence and self-esteem. He looks proud of himself when everyone says his food is very delicious. He happily smiles when he realizes he is important to others. (WS) May, 2009 Tang generally is a cheerful and good tempered young teenager who cleverly solves his own problems and diligently helps other people at our Drop-In Center. He likes to volunteer and to be responsible in doing his assigned tasks. Like many teenagers at his age, he appears to be temperamental and aggressive from time to time. After he left the school in Chanthaburi Province, he received a basic education at our Drop-In Center and is now attending the government’s non-formal educational program. Last month, in April, Tang joined in a one-week work camp sponsored by the government’s social welfare group where he spent time going through many useful schemes. One of the most important trainings was to learn how-to be able to live and to share with others. After the intensive training and care, and prior to being released and eventual departure, trainees were given a choice of where they wanted to go. Many went back to where they came from and others went into the government’s non-formal education while the remaining went into vocational training of their choices. Tang chose to live at the Nongkhai Home for Boys where he can continue his primary school there. This Home supports their children to play sports which Tang is really interested in. He started his new life there on the 5th of May, 2009. Periodic visits and observation are being maintained to ensure his well being and continued progress in his education and well being. (WS) November, 2009 Tang is now studying in Year 6 in the primary level at the Nongkhai Home for Boys. He loves sports and is a good sportsman. He can play many kinds of sports such as football and Thai Rattan Ball (Trakraw). A happy, cheerful young teenager, he kindly helps his people and can work hard without complaining. Like most young man at his age, he does not like fussy people. Tang is like people in general; he needs love and acceptance. At this stage of his life, his emotions appear to be not to stable like the majority of teenagers. He sometimes needs guidance and advice. He hopes he will live with his family when he completes Year 9 or the 3rd year of the lower secondary level school. (WS) April, 2010 Tang successfully completed his primary level and will be in Year 7 or the 1st year under the lower secondary education level when the new school years will begin in May of this year. Like most young teenagers, he needs love and acceptance from other people. He enjoys learning by himself and he does not like to be annoyed. He continues to be a good sportsman of the school and he actively joins in the planned activities. Tang still needs some guidance how to control himself. (WS) |
