Family History and General Information

Beer’s parents sell and regularly participate in the illegal use of drugs. Beer stopped his academic education after he completed Year 7. His father often punished him by hitting him. An officer of the Pattaya City Municipality placed Beer at our Centre with the agreement of his parents. They believed that Beer would receive excellent shelter, meals, schooling, and clothing by staying at our Center; in general a much better life than they could supply. At the Centre, Beer now does not attend the formal school but joins in the non-formal tuition classes at the Center. Being a helpful and friendly young man, he is liked by the old residents and the supervisors. He looks shy but smiles a lot. Often punished by his father, he appears to have a lack of confidence. Continued close monitoring and supervision are being maintained to ensure that his transition into his new life goes as smoothly as possible. (WS)

February, 2009

Beer appears to be a good fisherman, knowing how to catch and cook fish as a science. He is generally cheerful, playful, smiling, talkative, and charming. A good learner, he quickly analyses the situation and acts accordingly. He kindly helps his people when he is in a good mood. He plans to start his Year 7 when the new school year begins in May. His current ambition is to be a naval officer, like his brother, who graduated in the engineering line. At present, Beer is in a Behavior Modification process. He seems very temperamental. Peers do not like to play with him, as he is very demanding even to the point of using physical force to get his own way. His people are trying all means and methods to try and get Beer re-focused and back on the right path. (WS)

May, 2009

With the encouragement and support from our staff at the Drop-In Center, Beer and 9 other children decided to live at our Children’s Home and enter the school system. He was formally released into the care of the Children’s Home on the 1st of April, 2009. Over a month before the new school year started, the children have been preparing themselves for their academic studies. Beer has restarted his Year 7 or the 1st year in his education in the lower secondary level. It was reported by the teacher at school that Beer skipped some classes in the first week of school. Again, continued close monitoring and supervision are being maintained to ensure that his transition into his new life goes as smoothly as possible. (WS)

January, 2010

We continued to receive negative reports from his teacher at school in regards to frequently and regularly class skipping. Beer also was caught to have taken others’ personal properties into his possession without asking for permission. It deems appropriate that long discussion and counselling were needed to help Beer to mend his ways. Finally it was agreed that there are 2 alternatives for Beer – one is to return to his family and the other one is to become a monk for some indefinite period depending on his behaviour and conduct. Observation is to be maintained closely. On his own volition, Beer chose to go into the usual ritual of becoming a Buddhist monk in one of the temples in Buriram Province which is in the north-eastern part of the country. That lasted only one day or overnight. Beer left the priesthood and somehow spent about one month with a Buddhist priest he met casually and lived in one of the Buddhist temple in Sakaeo Province which is close of the Thai-Cambodia border. He then proceeded to leave the Buddhist temple and was found on the beach, and some slum areas in Pattaya City with a group of boys and girls. Many attempts were made by our field representative trying to convince him to return to take his residency in one of our facilities without any success. He and his group are being under close observation by authorities with the hope to be able to discourage them not to be involved in prostitution. It deems appropriate to remove his name from our records in the meantime. (NS)
