Family History and General Information

Fluke was born into a broken family. Nobody knows who his father is. His mother works in a department store and she is now remarried. She placed Fluke into the care of her stepmother who passed away from cancer. Fluke then was placed with the older sister of the stepmother of his mother. This lady now looks after three children, her own son, the son of her sister, and Fluke. She sells fried chicken at Boonsampan School and brings Fluke to the school when she goes to sell the chicken. When she found out that our Day Care Center was a place which gives care, love and warmth to toddlers, or pre-school children, who are living in poverty and to relief the busy parents’ burden trying to make a living she decided to place him into our care with their wish that he will be given all the help and love so that he may properly develop physically, spiritually, wisely, and socially. Fluke now attends our 1st year class in the kindergarten level at our Day Care Center, and his physical development and learning will be closely monitored like all the children in our care. (WS)

January, 2009

The most important meal of the day for a growing child is breakfast. A well balanced breakfast gives the child the energy it needs not only to get through the day, but to supply the building blocks to allow for growth, not only physically but mentally as well. Our Day Care Center supplies a well balanced breakfast to all of our children at 7:30 a.m. each day that they are in attendance. The official day is opened by the singing of the National Anthem, which is quite humorous. The older kids, who know the words, do a fairly good job, but the younger ones, not knowing the words, make their own up and try to sing as loud as the older kids! Following the Flag raising, the children do their daily exercises, led by their teachers and accompanied by music. It is quite humorous to see some of the kids rolling across the floor and doing their best to copy their teachers. Once the exercising is finished, it’s down to some basic developmental games focused mainly on reading and practicing language skills. The younger ones usually play with Lego while the older ones will watch educational TV programs or try their skill at coloring. After a good lunch it’s nap time. After their nap, weather permitting, the children will spend time in the playground or trying their hand at some creative exercises. Later in the afternoon, the parents start arriving to pick up their children. Here at our Day Care Center, Fluke continues his first year in our kindergarten educational programme. He has no problem adapting himself to his new friends. He can do many things by himself and has now mastered holding pencils and crayons and he can draw and paint fairly well. He follows instruction readily and is capable of communicating with his teacher and his friends. He does not need any assistance in attending to his personal sanitary requirements. He mixes well with his friends and sometimes cries when he is mocked by his friends. He is quiet and timid at times, and he appears unhappy when he has to participate in dancing or in demonstrations. Fluke is a good, strong and healthy boy. His current weight is 18 kg and height is 109 cm. (WS)

May, 2009

Fluke was able to progress to the next grade at our nursery school, and is now in Kindergarten– Level 2. He is learning the elements of reading and writing as well as skills, which are meant to help him to make the adjustment into school life when he becomes of age. He is already doing well in his efforts at literacy under the close supervision of a teacher. He can tell a story by using short sentences. He is able to count 1-30 and remembers all the Thai and English alphabets. He can string beads up to 30 pieces and connect up to 30 pieces of Lego. He can creatively make the modelling clay into many shapes. In class, he bravely responds in conversation with the teacher and looks proud of himself when being applauded. A polite young gentleman, Fluke knows well when he should say “Thank you” and “I am sorry”. He loves music and dance. He automatically moves when the music is turned on. Fluke appears to be a socialable child who kindly helps his friends and shares toys with his friends. His current weight is 19 kg and height is 112 cm. While other students had a long vacation in April, Fluke and his friends continued to go to our nursery school. There is an important festival for Thai people in the middle of April. This is the Songkran Festival or the Thai Traditional New Year. Our Day Care Center celebrated this festival on the 10th of April, 2009. Our children, having learned about the Songkran festival, paid respect to their teachers by pouring water on their hands and asking for their blessing. They also played the Thai traditional children games, which are rarely seen at the present and happily threw water on each other. Fluke had a wonderful time at this festival. Health is very important to our life. Our Day Care Center provides a monthly medical check up for our children on the last Friday of each month. At the end of May, there are 8 children who have to see the dentist as they have decaying teeth, but Fluke is not one of them. (WS)

October, 2009

By the age of 5 years and a month, Fluke has developed physically, spiritually, wisely, and socially. Not only is our Day Care Center a focal point in his life, but also his center of social relationships. He presently is more cheerful, good tempered, smiling, and talkative. He enjoys playing with his friends and his teachers. A kind boy, he actively helps his people as much as possible. His current weight is 20 kilograms and height is 113 centimetres. Fluke displays himself as a good student who happily accepts the new lessons in his life. He is now able to recite short poems and count 1-100. He is also capable to write his nickname. Dance lessons are taught at our day nursery in order that our children will have self confidence, self discipline, poise and grace. Fluke does not need to be encouraged into dancing and he appears to have a good rhythm of movement. Dancing is lots of fun for him! In August, he was one of 20 dancers who cutely danced in “the Smiling Sun Show” on the Father Ray’s Day. On the 16th of October, Fluke and his friends joined in the in house sport day. This day was full of games, laughter and good food. Many of the sports were adapted to be more like games so that our preschoolers could enjoy them and participate as well. (WS)

March, 2010

Fluke moved up to the third year of our kindergarten educational programme. He continues to be a good learner who curiously asks when he wants to know. Along with his classmates, he has a chance to study English from a native speaker, and he appears to be good at it. He remembers easy greeting sentences and can write the English alphabet very well. His attending teacher favorably notes that Fluke is a good model and leader for his peers. He now weighs 20 kilograms and is 115.5 centimeters tall. Fluke and his classmates have started taking computer classes every Monday. He has become familiar with several children’s computer programmes and can use the mouse to lead him through the games and activities. Every Tuesday, he and his classmates also have swimming lessons. This training makes them strong and brave. Like all children in our Day Care Center, Fluke is cared for in safe and stimulating surroundings. Our Day Care Center provides a monthly medical check up for our children on the first Monday of each month. Fluke and his peers were recently given an oral polio vaccine. (WS)
