Fr. Ray’s Village
Family History and General Information
Suah’s parents broke up leaving Suah in the care of her grandfather on the mother’s side. The father and the mother live elsewhere and their whereabouts are not known to the family. The grandfather is Sua – Ruedee Sae-Tao’s father. When the grandfather went to work elsewhere, Suah was left behind to live with her aunt – Sua – Ruedee Sae Tao who is only 10 years old. Both of them are close. One day a fire broke out and their home was totally destroyed, vanishing into thin air. Sua’s father, who is also Suah’s grandfather, returned to home location to rescue these two children and to see what could be recovered after the big fire. Sua’s father decided to bring Sua to our Home; Suah has no other alternative but to follow Sua as they have been living together for so long and they are so close. Suah was accepted into our Home on the 30th of April 2006. Arrangements were made for Suah to start her education in her 1st entry level in one of the kindergartens which is located close to our Home. With Sua being close by, Suah has been able to adapt herself quite well to her new life in her new surroundings under the close guidance and care from her 10 year old aunt - Sua. (NS) October, 2006 Living at the Redemptorist Home for five months, at five years old we now see a pretty but quiet young girl in Suah. She is passing through a phase at the moment of being rather shy of strangers and will sometimes cry if someone she does not know, for example a visitor, approaches her. She is however doing very well in the second year of kindergarten classes at Wat Nongprue Kindergarten School proving herself to be a diligent learner who loves going to school. Becoming a very feminine young lady at this time, she likes to wear dresses instead of shorts. If there is any chance to have make-up applied, for instance from one of the older children, Suah is there! She is also largely a social character and enjoys playing with the other children in her group and the older children. Being an obedient girl with a good-looking and charming appearance, Suah is liked by her teachers and other children. Her favourite pastime is playing with dolls with her friends. She is able to help herself with the routine things like bathing, dressing and eating at the level expected of someone her age. Suah has had good health during the previous months. She only recently had a minor cold; however, she was back to normal after she went to see the doctor. She has a hearty appetite, with chicken being her preferred meal. (WS) May, 2007 Suah will advance to Year 3 in kindergarten level when the school year starts in the middle part of May of this year. She was able to pass the year-end examination with an average grade of 67%. Suah is well liked by her supervising teacher at our Home as she is a cute little lady who enjoys going to school daily and who also gets along well with all her friends. She is strong and healthy. She continues to require help from her supervising teacher at our Home every now and then to attend to her daily routine personal requirements. Most residents return home, Suah included, for the whole month of April to be with their families during the year-end summer holiday after writing their final examination. Those having no family to turn to, remain at the Home for the holiday where there are many events and joyful activities all lined up for them to participate in. (NS) December, 2007 The 1st academic term for this year – from May through to the end of September, has been completed. The month of October is a long school holiday in between 2 school terms. All young children are now in their 2nd school term starting from early November through to the end of February. The School’s final examinations usually start in the early part of March and last for about one week, followed by the long summer holiday. Suah is now in the 3rd and final year in kindergarten level in a class of 35 classmates. She is known to be a joyful and happy child having great interest in her academic study. She has shown her preference in art over academic subjects even though she is doing equally well in both. She mingles well with her friends both at school as well as at our Home. She likes to play football with her friends usually in the afternoon after having returned from her school. In spite of being just a small little girl, Suah is capable of taking care of her daily needs including those in personal hygienic requirements. She also participates well in all of our Home’s activities, which included: the Buddhist Lent, a visit to the Safari World, the National Mother’s Day, the 1st Pattaya International Magic Festival 2007, and the King Rama the V Day. (NS) June, 2008 The big day came in May, and Suah boarded the bus with the other students and went off for her first day in Grade 1 at the primary school, proudly wearing a crisp, clean, new uniform as all children in Thailand do. We’ll be anxiously awaiting progress reports from the teachers at the end of the first term but believe there is no cause for concern – except that the clean uniform will daily return dirty as the result of an active life in school! Like all children at our Home, she gets up at 5 a.m. on a school day and looks after her personal routines. She then gathers with the other students and has breakfast before she gets on the bus at 7 a.m. Suah happily says she enjoys going to school where she meets the kind teachers and the lovely friends. She reports with her bright smile that her favorite subject is English. She now can write and read at the approximate rate of the other children of her age. She enjoys drawing and playing with her friends in her pastime. Suah has a good appetite and she loves fried rice and tomatoes. The new toy for her at the moment is a computer, which she has learned to use both the mouse and the keyboard. She actively practices her computer skills in her free time. (WS) December, 2008 In September, Suah was transferred into the care of the Father Ray Children’s Village program, our new project which provides a warm home for homeless children or victims of broken homes, giving them love, care and help as found in a normal family. There are currently four homes in the Village. Suah was welcomed into the 2nd home along with 6 other residents, Nampueng, Manao, Tee Lek, Fah, Mee, and Ay. They all call their Caregiver “Mother” who takes care of them under the “we are family” concept and gives them the family life that all children require and deserve. Suah is now in the 2nd school term of her Year 1 in the primary school. She enjoys going to school and living at the Village. A talkative and joyful young girl, she loves sharing and giving. She cheerfully helps her teachers and her friends. There is no doubt that she is liked by everyone. Her current ambition is to be a teacher. She presently weighs 20 kg and is 114 cm tall. Her favorite pastimes are drawing and watching TV. She likes to eat omelettes and fruits. Suah is assigned to manage her personal routines such as washing her socks and preparing her bed. She happily does her assigned tasks and her work is at the level expected of someone her age. At the village, Suah actively participates in the useful and interesting planned activities for the residents. In the morning on Saturday, the young girls learn how to make works of art from scrap materials. They are all very proud of themselves when their Mother says they have done a good job. And in the afternoon they happily study English taught by a foreign volunteer. Every Sunday, all residents cooperatively take part in the “Develop the Village Activities”. They clean their village and work in the garden, keeping their living place clean and livable. The children all learn how to spend their free time in useful activities. (WS) February, 2009 In the birth certificate, Suah is named Prathana Sae-Tao (Sae-Tao is the surname of her father). Lately, it was found that Suah’s surname was changed into Sae-Song which is her mother’s. Therefore, Suah became Prathana Sae-Song according to the government’s populace register information. (WS) June, 2009 Suah completed Year 1 in the primary education level with a fairly good passing grade of 71.25%. She did very well in Physical Education-82%, and did fairly well in Vocational Skill and Technology-77% and Mathematics-75%. Her lowest grade was Sciences at 62%. She stood in the middle of her class of 16 students. Her class teacher noted that Suah was able to read well and write fairly well, however she did her assignments in class very slowly. If she has a longer concentration period, her teacher believes that her results would be improved. Her Mother at the Village tries to motivate her to work harder at school. Tuesday, the 12th of May, marked the first day of the brand new school year. There were 3 girls from our Village attending their formal schooling at the same School as Suah who was assigned to look after them at school. She was a good host on the first day of their school lives. She happily explained to them how to wear the school uniform. At the village, Suah does her assigned tasks responsibly. In her spare time, she actively plays badminton with the Mother and other children in her home. Her current weight is 22 kg. and height is 116 cm. April is a part of the long school holidays for the Thai students. During these holidays, there are many interesting activities to bring more happiness into our children’s lives. Some older children as well as Suah take special courses such as Computer and English. Some joined in programs such as the Recreation of Bright Life Training, which taught our children how to manage their time and how to work like a team. With the cooperation of the Huachiew Chalermprakiet University, Suah and 12 residents from our village joined in the Young Guide Training Program, targeted to develop and support the language skills of our children. Letting them talk in front of the class, they felt like they were speaking in public. Some children were shy but some were very confident. After they finished this training and they received certificates of accomplishment, it was that they had improved their public speaking ability. There is an important festival for Thai people in the middle of April. This is the Songkran Festival or the Thai Traditional New Year celebration. Our Village celebrated this festival on the 16th of April, 2009. Our children, having learned about the Songkran festival, paid respect to their mothers by pouring scented water over their hands and asking for their blessing for the coming year and then they happily threw water on each other. (WS) November, 2009 Now in Year 2 of the primary level, Suah displays herself as a good student who attentively does her assignments. She follows her teacher’s instructions and is not afraid to ask questions when in doubt. At the Village, she is a helpful, sweet, and talkative girl who performs her daily chores with courtesy and politeness and is one of the most charming ladies here. Suah is a matured, attractive, young lady of 8 years and 3 months. She is well behaved, obedient, and responsible. She is inquisitive in a very positive way. She really wants to know and to learn more. She is very popular among her friends and is always well liked by everyone who comes into contact with her. Suah is healthy and strong. Her current weight is 22 kilograms and height is 119 centimeters. A kind lady, she happily shares her toys with the younger residents in her home. In her free time, she enjoys reading story books and reviewing her past lessons. She is good at Thai Traditional Dancing. (WS) June, 2010 On April 16th, the School age Children from the Fr. Ray Children’s Village went on a two and a half day educational field trip. For many of them, it was the first time they went so far away from their home. They visited a waterfall area, a Buddhist Temple and stayed in a small Resort. On the second day they were treated to various activities animated by four members of the Thai Army Camp located in the Nakorn Nayok province. Late afternoon, they all went swimming by a huge dam named Kondan. On the third day, after breakfast, they went to Saraburi to visit Farm Chokechai, the largest dairy farm in Thailand. After the two and a half hour tour and lunch, they headed back to the Children’s Village arriving at 17:00. Upon returning to Pattaya, we asked the children what they enjoyed the most and here is what Suah said: “I like the Resort as it is very beautiful, and I like Farm Chokechai as I saw many kinds of animals and their shows”. Besides she had a lot of fun swimming in the Waterfall, she has learned about team work from the activities during the trip. The food was very delicious and she had her favorite fruit. (WS) |
