Family History and General Information

Es came from Udon Thani, a province in the northeast of Thailand. His parents are rice farmers and grow other crops according to the seasons. There are 6 people in his family, Es, his parents, his grandmother on the mother’s side, his sister who is now 14 years old and attending the government school, and his brother who is a year of age. When Es was in Year 8 at school, he had a motorcycle accident. He collided with the mileage post whilst riding his motorcycle. He was treated in Khon Kaen Hospital initially for 2 months and then was transferred, and admitted to Wangsammor Hospital for a month and 9 days. His left arm and left leg became weak. Having been fed liquid food by a G Tube in the hospital, he now has a fading scar on his neck and he has a big scar on his forehead. Es has finished Year 6 of school. He has suffered from asthma since he was young. His physical disability prevented him from attending school. He did not carry on his studies further after the accident. He just stayed at home and gave some help to his parents with the farming. He learnt about our School from the teacher of our new project, the Redemptorist Vocational School for the Disabled in Nongkhai. He is very glad to have been accepted, after passing the entrance exam on his first attempt. He is now in the Electronics Shop Owner’s course.

November, 2009

After staying at our school for 15 days, Es is very happy to restart his education. He says it is time for his brain to work after he has not used it for a long time. Coming to our School with hope, he dreams that he will get a proper job after his graduation and then he will be able to support his siblings and allow them to be well-educated. At School, he finds that he has no problems with his studies. He feels that the teachers are very good at advising and guiding the students. He enjoys the fact that all students help one another in all areas. He feels that they are all like one big family who support one another. Es is a very well spoken, cheerful young man. He would like to say thank you to the sponsors for giving the disadvantaged people a great opportunity to better themselves and allow them to achieve a solid position in the community and not be a burden on society.
