Fr. Ray Drop-In Center for Street Kids
Family History and General Information
We were informed by the Sister Center, which gives consultation to Thai Lady Boys that there was a young teenager who slept in front of the Sister Center every night. This boy wandered around and was a beggar in the Walking Street area. It is a risk for him to live in this kind of life style. Our staff met the teenager and found his name was Chong or Jane. Chong was accepted into our care with his great hope that he will have the better life. Chong reported he was from a broken family. His mother remarried and has 2 children with her new spouse. Chong lived with his aunt in Nonthaburi Province and did not receive love and warmth like the normal family. He ran away from home with his friends. He completed his primary school before he ran away. Here at the Drop-In Center, Chong displays himself as a cheerful lively person who needs a lot of love and attention. He wants everybody to like him. A clever, active young person, he knows how to survive in his community. He helps by working in the kitchen and cleans the house. His progress will be monitored closely like other residents in our care. (WS) February, 2009 A very confident, active young teenager, Chong needs a feeling of acceptance. He appears to have some pressure on his mind with regards to his lack of acceptance by his father who cannot accept his girlish personality. Chong is under a behavior modification process. He is now learning how to happily live with other people. Manners and speech are the main courses he is being trained in. At the Center, he attentively joins in the basic classes prepared for the children who cannot attend a formal school. Our staff is collecting his official documents to allow him his schooling. Chong loves dancing and sometimes practices this skill with his friends. His current ambition is to be an actor at the Tiffani Show complex or the Alcazar-Pattaya, which are both famous cabaret show places. (WS) May, 2009 With the encouragement and support from our staff at the Drop-In Center, Chong and 9 children decided to go to live at our Children’s Home and entered the school system. He was formally released into the care of the Children’s Home on the 1st of April, 2009. Over a month before the new school year started, they were preparing themselves for their academic studies. Chong has started his Year 7 or the 1st year in his education in the lower secondary level. He appears to be adjusting well and mixes nicely with the other residents at our Home and with his classmates. Continued close monitoring and supervision are being maintained to ensure that his transition into his new life goes as smoothly as possible. (WS) December, 2009 Chong continues on with his study in his 1st year under the lower secondary educational level in which he was able to pass his school’s examination in all subjects. The exam was taken towards the end of September, prior to the school’s long holiday in October marking the split between the 1st and the 2nd school terms of the year. His supervising teacher commends Chong for being in good behaviour and in good conduct. Chong likes to play volleyball and also performing Thai classical dancing entertaining the visitors. Being involved in sports helps him to be fit and strong and in good health. (NS) April, 2010 In order to help Chong to adapt himself better, it deems appropriate to transfer him to return to our Drop-In Center while arrangements for his further academic education has been done so that Chong may start his education in the lower secondary educational level (Years 7 through 9) when the next school year will start in May of this year. Chong is occasionally temperamental. He uses his loud voice through shouting and yelling to protect himself. Deep down inside he is just a soft and easy going boy who continues to seek warm reception and friendship from others. He is good in sharing and often shows himself to be good when he is all alone by himself. Chong expresses his pleasure in performing the artistic classical dances and will not miss the opportunity if and when there would be practices going on. He also enjoys some light sports and will participate with the occasion when arrangements have been made. Chong takes full responsibility in his self-care – his sleeping area, his laundry, and even dish washing. His supervising teacher is keeping close watch over his sudden flash of temper through being calm and being nice to him. Things appear to work out pretty well. Chong is joyful and happy. He is enjoying good health. (NS) |
