Fr. Ray Children's Home
Family History and General Information
Uan reached our Drop-In Centre on the 8th of June, 2008. He learned about our Centre from his friends at the Sister Centre, which gives consultation to the Thai Lady Boys. He said his parents are farmers. He has never been to school. He loves to dress beautifully and seems talkative. At the Centre, he attentively joins in the basic classes prepared for the children who cannot attend formal school. It is quite difficult for the people who have no background in attending school. He mixes well with the children here and is liked by his people. Uan would like to be a beautician at which he is quite an expert. The proper arrangement is now being prepared for him to start his schooling. (WS) August, 2008 Uan is thirteen years old now; a very confident, bright boy. At the Center, he attentively joins in the basic classes prepared for the children who cannot attend a formal school. He mixes well with the children here and is liked by his people. Uan loves cooking and often helps in the kitchen. He diligently does his assigned household chores. He enjoys reading and watching TV in his spare time. He now dreams of becoming a hostess and flying around the world. Being on an airplane is his greatest hope. Uan loves dancing and he is often selected to be a prime representative of the Centre to join in the many performances presented to the guests of the Centre. He is a very cooperative boy who enjoys being part of the performances. He recently was one of the performers on the stage of the 5th Memorial of Father Ray. (WS) February, 2009 It is noted that Uan’s behavior is much improved. He is a quick and clever learner who reasonably forgives himself and others and kindly helps people. He bravely and proudly presents his dancing ability on the stage. He is a good performer of the Center. Uan is now studying in the primary level at the non-formal education school. He completed Year 4 in the local school in Surin Province. He is quite talented in languages. He wants to receive the best education that is available for him, and therefore the possibility of a good future. He sadly told his people that he saw many adults sleeping on the beach when he wandered around Pattaya, and he does not want to have the same fate as those people. This made him decide to put himself into the care of our people at the Center. Like most young teenagers, Uan has a fresh perspective on things. He has the youth, energy, and time to set and achieve even the loftiest of goals. At this stage of life, he dreams to be a news announcer or a tour guide. The stable career will give him enough money he hopes to support his father and family. His people believe he can reach his goal as he has great potential. They know he lack the experience so they give him guidance to help reach these goals. Uan knows education and his efforts will help him to reach his goals. (WS) May, 2009 With the encouragement and support from our staff at the Drop-In Center, Uan and 9 other children decided to live at our Children’s Home and enter the school system. He was formally released into the care of the Children’s Home on the 1st of April, 2009. Over a month before the new school year started, the children had been preparing themselves for their academic studies. Unfortunately, Uan does not attend school like the other children. Along with a young teen resident from the Drop-In Center and one from our Home, Uan has been a trainee at Thai Alangkarn Theater which proudly presents “The Thai Extravaganza Show”. Here he has been able to experience Thai performing arts in a Panoramic Concept which is the first of its kind in Thailand. It has been his dream to appear in the shows. The first time on the stage, he was assigned to act as a monkey. He was very proud of himself and believes it is the first step to attaining his dream. At the moment, our three young men do not earn any money by performing in the shows but they have 2 free meals a day. They work 6 days a week and Wednesday is their day off. Uan has been observed closely to ensure a smooth transition into the theatre although it was discovered that he has been adapting himself quite well. (WS) November, 2009 Things did not quite work for Uan as well as was previously planned. To help Uan and also for his own benefit in the future, Uan is now taking his academic study in the government’s non-formal education program. He continues with his residency in our Children’s Home, but he stays at the Fr. Ray Outreach Work and Drop-In Center. In his free time from his academic study, arrangements were made for Uan to take dietary courses at HRH Princess Sirindhorn Occupational Training Center in Banglamung District. The center is not far away from our Drop-In Center and Uan can commute easily and conveniently. Our personnel at our Drop-In Center commend Uan for being joyful and happy. He likes to help others in need and he also shares with others as well. Uan is friendly to everyone, especially those who come for a visit to our Center. Ever since taking courses in cooking and also taking academic courses simultaneously, Uan is quite busy filling his time doing things assigned to him. Yet he is still able to find time to actively participate in our Center’s activities as well. In his free time, Uan helps in the cooking voluntarily without encouragement and nudging by the Center’s personnel. He enjoys helping and has shown his capability in cooking foods quite deliciously using whatever is available in the kitchen. Uan is observed to be quite capable in the use of English at the day-to-day conversational level. Attempts are being made to help him in this regard so that he can be of help to the Center during the visitation of guests, which could be quite a relief to the Center’s personnel. Uan wishes to become a good chef through his daily development and to be able to communicate with others sensibly and to be able to entertain others. Uan is enjoying his health and is gaining weight. He demonstrates patience most of the time but not always. As he grows up he is able to become a person who has self confidence full of personal integrity and patience. (NS) April, 2010 Uan was able to complete the dietician courses from the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Occupational Training Center which location is in Banglamung area. The formal certification of graduation was officially handed to all participants on the 1st of this month, Uan included. He was so proud of his achievement. Uan usually is a good person who always keeps himself busy and also being joyful at the same time. He possesses creative mind and would not shy away from the opportunity to help others when such occasion arises. He is sociable and likes to make friends with others. There are occasions when he is not pleased with something he would walk away and tries to be alone. It is so easily detected when somebody explains thing to him then he would understand and return to be happy and joyful once again. We are now in the midst of the long summer holiday, and Uan takes the opportunity to return home to be with his family. Upon his return he wishes to join in with a restaurant to become an assistant so that he may learn the actual cooking and the actual work. Uan also expresses his interest in joining the government’s non-formal education in the primary level. Uan is looking forward to the opportunity to be exposed in the actual cooking work in a restaurant. He is growing up and also gaining some weight. We all hope that he will learn new things when working in a restaurant after having returned from his vacation with his family. (NS) |
