Family History and General Information

Tone’s hometown is in Lamphun Province, located in the North of Thailand. He says his parents passed away and that the government social worker sent him to the “Eastern Child Welfare Protection Home” in Rayong Province. The games addiction of the young children is now one of the most serious problems in Thailand. Tone is one child who is hooked on the computer games. Tone reported that he ran away from the Government Home with his 4 friends. They walked from Rayong to Pattaya and wandered around South Pattaya. The police brought him into the care of our Drop-In Centre in April. He appears to have adapted himself well to the new environment and mixes well with the residents. He is a responsible young boy who diligently helps in the kitchen and cleaning the road in front of the building. He is a healthy boy who has a good appetite and loves playing football. While our staff is preparing a suitable education for him, Tone attentively attends the basic classes prepared for the children who cannot attend the formal school. His progress will be closely monitored. (WS)

August, 2008

Tone gives the appearance of being a polite, cheerful boy who is obedient, talkative, and courteous, well liked by his caregivers and friends. He responsibly does his assigned household chores. Along with the others here at the Centre, he takes advantage of in-house tuition in English and other fundamental subjects. Tone loves computer and dreams of being a programmer in the future. He has also has shown an interest in music which we hope he will keep up. He is in good health and plays football very well. Along with other children in our projects, Tone took part in the 5th Memorial of Father Ray Brennan on the 16th of August, 2008. This day was the most wonderful time for the children under our care and the staff to recall Father Ray who was our great giver. The young men from the Centre had a chance to present their hand-made glass crafting and to sell it to those who wished to purchase it. All of our children enjoyed eating the delicious food and drinks prepared by our kind donors. They all thanked them for their kindness and will never forget this day. (WS)

January, 2009

It was found that Tone completed Year 4 in the primary level from the local school in his hometown. At the present, he has been under a behaviour modification process. He generally is a clever, creative quick learner who has a good memory but it seems like he has a short concentration span. A skilled observer, Tone well understands the environment and the surrounding area. Personally, he is a quick, talkative young teenager who is often smiling and charming. Tone is confused and has no goal or motivation in his life. He is not ready to re-start his formal schooling at the present. Like some teenagers, he appears to lack the interest or desire to discuss goal realization. His people always tell him that the future is wide open and that there are great possibilities open for him. This is where the process of goal realization comes into play. By determining where his talents, abilities, interests, and resources lie, Tone will soon be able to set realistic goals for himself. (WS)

May, 2009

Being a cheerful friendly teenager, Tone appears to be more cooperative and attentive in group activities. He now realizes how education is important in his life, and he wants to be as educated as much as he can. At our Drop-In Center, Tone receives a basic education provided by our staff. He diligently reads and writes. He completed his primary level from the non-formal school. Like most young teenagers, he copies some behaviours from the older residents and is interested in the opposite sex. He can be irritated but not aggressive. When he is in a bad mood, he avoids eye contact and tries to live alone. Tone is generally a clever, charming person who looks very self-confident when he is in his group. Last month, in April, Tone joined in a one-week work camp sponsored by the government’s social welfare where he spent time going through many useful schemes. One of the most important trainings was to learn how to be able to live and to share with others. After the intensive training and care, and prior to being released and eventual departure, trainees were given a choice of where they wanted to go. Many went back to where they came from and others went into the government’s non-formal education while the remaining went into vocational training of their choice. Tone has been interested in the electricity course at the Vocational Training Center in Khon Kaen Province and is now preparing himself for studying there. Our staff will closely follow up his progress and will visit him once a week. (WS)

November, 2009

Tone is now attending the Small Engines Mechanic course at the Welfare and Vocational Training Center for Northern Women in Lampang Province. This course will take 6 months and he stays at the hostel in the Center. His teachers report that he does his duties and enjoys taking part in the planned activities with his friends. He looks more self-confident and reasonable. Being a young teenager, he is learning to control his emotions. He is generally a happy, cheerful person but he introverts and is quiet when he is confused or stressed. He dreams about getting a job and have enough money to support himself, and it has been his great expectation to return to his hometown where he has some relatives. We hope he will successfully complete the course, which will help his dream come true. (WS)
