Fr. Ray Children's Home
Family History and General Information
Oye’s mother had a heart failure and passed away in 2004, and then his father started his new family. He was in Grade 5 at the primary school when his mother passed away. Due to his great loss, he quit his study at school. Oye is very effeminate, and this is the way he has always been this way since he was very young. His father cannot accept his actions so he placed Oye into the care of his daughter, who is Oye’s older sister. Because of his girl-like behaviour, his sister chased him away. Oye lived aimlessly at the Mochit Bus Terminal and then was sent to the Pakkred Boys’ Home in Nonthaburi Province. In 2005, he attended the beauty salon course at the HRH Princess Sirindhorn Occupational Training Center in Banglamung, which is not too far away from the location of our Drop-In Centre. He then was sent to the vocational center in Si Sa Ket Province. Oye joined in the agricultural course there and he showed he did not like to work hard. He and his close friends decided to run away from Si Sa Ket to Pattaya. They reached our Drop-In Centre at mid night on the 26th of April, 2008. At our Centre, Oye displays himself as a responsible person who diligently does his household tasks. He loves to dress beautifully and seems talkative. He reports he enjoys his life here and needs some education. He now knows how education is important to his life. He plans to work and study at the same time after he gets his ID card. His current ambition is to be an actor at the Tiffani-Show or the Acazar-Pattaya, which are famous cabaret show places. At the Center, he attentively joins in the basic classes prepared for the children who cannot attend formal school. He mixes well with the children here and is like by his people. (WS) August, 2008 Dressing well and talkativeness are the basic makeup of Oye. He continues to attend the non-formal tuition at the Centre. Reading is his favourite pastime. He co-operates fully in any activities at the Centre. He was once selected to be one of the staff of Muang Pattaya 2 School, to teach the cheer leaders. Ooy loves dancing and never hesitates to show this skill. He was one of the representatives of the Centre to perform at the open ceremony of the 5th Father Ray’s Memorial Event at the Redemptorist School for the Disabled on the 16th of August, 2008. This day was the most wonderful time for the children under our care and the staff to recall Father Ray who was our great giver. The young men from the Centre had a chance to present their hand-made glass work to all those who attended this special day. All of our children enjoyed themselves partaking of the delicious food and drinks prepared by our kind donors. They all thanked them for their kindness and will never forget this day. (WS) February, 2009 Oye is now studying in the primary level at a non-formal education school. A creative person, he is very good at dress modifying and dancing, both modern dance and Thai Traditional dance. He dances beautifully with his own style. There is no doubt that he has become a popular performer of the Center. He is applauded when he is on stage on special occasions. The audiences fall in love with his outstanding postures and his beautiful smiling face. His favorite sport is badminton. His greatest hope remains to be an actor at the Tiffani Show or the Alcazar-Pattaya and he wants his father to accept what he is and does. Oye is a good member of our Center who is always cheerful and helpful. (WS) May, 2009 With the encouragement and support from our staff at the Drop-In Center, Oye and 9 other children decided to live at our Children’s Home and enter the school system. He was formally released into the care of the Children’s Home on the 1st of April, 2009. For over a month before the new school year starts, they have been preparing themselves for their academic studies. Unfortunately, Oye does not attend classes like the other children. Along with a young teen resident from the Drop-In Center and one from our Home, Oye has been a trainee at Thai Alangkarn Theater which proudly presents “The Thai Extravaganza Show”. Here they can experience the Thai performing arts in a Panoramic Concept which is the first of its kind in Thailand. It has always been Oye’s desire to appear in the show. The first time on the stage, he was assigned to act as a monkey. He was very proud of himself and feels it is the first step in attaining his dream. At the moment, our three young adults do not earn any money from their performances but they have 2 free meals a day. They work 6 days a week and Wednesday is their day off. When I visited our Children’s Home, Oye happily told me about what he did in the last month. A talkative, cheerful young teenager, he loves to dress beautifully. He has been observed closely to ensure a smooth transition into the theatre although it was discovered that he has been adapting himself quite well. (WS) December, 2009 Oye has been making good progress in his show at the Thai Alangkarn Theater. He now appears in various different shows, and he now receives a small amount of pocket money and free meals. Oye lives mainly in our Drop-In Center when he is in Pattaya and not working. Each Wednesday and Thursday he attends his non-formal educational classes and his doing well at his studies, and he knows that although he loves performing he must complete his studies. Because of his unique life style, it is appropriate that he remains living at our Drop-In Center. Oye in the meantime conducts himself well, and he is in good health. (NS) |
