Father Ray Children’s Home

With the Christmas and New Year festivities over the next holiday we celebrated here inThailandwas National Children’s Day which takes place every year on the second Saturday of January.

This is a day when parents, aunts, uncles and grandparents throughout the country focus the children of the family.

Local authorities organise fun games and activities for children, free concerts are performed by some of the more well known pop stars and it is the one day that no matter how naughty a child is they are given less punishment.

All the youngsters living at the Father Ray Children’s Village spent the day at the nearby Tiger Zoo. Some children are braver than others, and while some of our younger boys were willing to climb into the cage and feed the tiger cubs, others were going no nearer than looking through a strong fence.

The children from the Father Ray Children’s Home did not have a clue where they were going as they all climbed onto the coach. But it was a short drive away to where a local organisation had set up an activity camp.

There was archery, arts and crafts, jungle trekking, golf and an assault course which ended with every child filthy dirty.

But it would not be a day out with huge amounts of food and karaoke. I knew our children could eat a lot, but on Children’s Day they surprised me with just how much food they can stuff into their bellies.

At the end of the day I know that each and everyone of them had a day to remember, and by the time the coach reached home all the children were fast asleep.
