Project: Father Ray Children’s Village
Family History and General Information
Ben, JJ and Palm are brothers. They come from a poor and broken family in Rayong – where is not too far from Pattaya. Their parents are separated while their father was serving a prison sentence for selling drugs. Their mother is remarried and moved to live at Chanthaburi- a province adjacent to Rayong.
Ben is the second child of three brothers. Both Ben and Palm are living with their paternal grandmother who is living in an impermanent and dirty structure without any facilities, completely unsuitable to grow up in. Their grandmother is a rag picker and she is also picking some natural products for sell. She cannot properly take care of her grandchildren. So, she decided to ask for help from our Drop-In Center with the hope that they receive the best education available, and therefore the possibility of a good future.
Ben is welcomed by every member of the Village to live in the eighth house. Like all children here, he is well looked after by the Caregiver “Mother” who takes care of the children under the “we are family” concept and gives them the family life that all children require and deserve.
Ben finished his 2nd term of Grade 2. He will be advancing to Grade 3 when the new school year starts in May. Ben is a smart young boy who is a great student in class. He said that his favourite subject is Math as it is easy for him to understand since there is only one correct answer. But he said that he really doesn’t enjoy Science as it is very difficult for him to understand.
At school, Ben gets along well with all his classmates. He is friends with everyone, but at the Village, his best friends are his two brothers JJ and Palm. They play everything together, including going on adventures and getting into lots of mischief. Ben is a very active young boy who loves running around, playing football and competing in marbles with his friends. On Saturday afternoons Ben joins some of our other children from the Village and Home in football training with our volunteers.
Ben has a very good appetite, eating pretty much anything, but his favourite foods he says are papaya salad and all vegetables. Overall, he continues to be healthy and strong with no major issues.
During the school’s holidays he was lucky to be able to go to Hat Sai Kaew Navy Beach with the rest of the Village. Ben loves swimming and he had an amazing time playing in the water and sand – exploring all the little fish and creatures the beach had to offer.
Ben is living happily in House Number 8. His mother and stepfather come to visit him and his brothers from time to time.
The school closed for the summer holidays in April and Ben spent a couple of weeks at a local temple, ordained as a novice monk.
